This past June we caught a glimpse of what Steve Jobs and the Apple crew had planned for the City of Cupertino, that being a gigantic “spaceship” campus in the shape of a ring, one so magnificent it would make ancient Rome cry little column-shaped tears. What we’ve got now is extended details including floor plans and renderings. Look at this fantastic vision in architecture and imagine for yourself the secrets and future presentations on iPads it may hold. Would you be happy working in such a facility?
This location is set to be built in sunny California, it containing an Office, Research and Development Building made up of 2.8 million square feet of building. This facility will contain a 1,000 seat Corporate Auditorium, a Corporate Fitness Center of untold proportions, Research Facilities comprising approximately 300,000 square feet, a Central Plant, and associated parking. Steve Jobs himself introduced the campus back in June as follows:
It’s a pretty amazing building. It’s a little like a spaceship landed. It’s got this gorgeous courtyard in the middle… It’s a circle. It’s curved all the way around. If you build things, this is not the cheapest way to build something. There is not a straight piece of glass in this building. It’s all curved. We’ve used our experience making retail buildings all over the world now, and we know how to make the biggest pieces of glass in the world for architectural use. And, we want to make the glass specifically for this building here. We can make it curve all the way around the building… It’s pretty cool.
Cupertino’s own home site has the full plans for the site up now in PDF form. You can check out the following:
You can also check out all of the renderings in our gallery here below. Again I ask you – would you like to work for Apple if you could do it in such a wild facility as this? How does it make you feel to know that such a building will be built? Will you visit?
